Using frosted window film on existing glass saves money

Their are many advantages to using frosted window film on existing interior glass.  Some of them are :

1. Window film is less costly than etched glass.

2. If the design or corporate logo changes the product can be removed without damaging the glass. In the attached photo the company has changed names and we are only going to remove the existing few inches of lettering and replace with new company name. The bulk of the film will not need to be replaced, only the small lettering between the larger pieces.

3. Our standard frosted film is polyester based and is less likely to show smudging and fingerprints. If it does become soiled it is easy to clean with a mild soap and water solution and a squeegee.

Safety-security films can upgrade glass to meet building codes

This is good news for situations where glass needs to comply with building codes.

Current tests show that when 4 mil security film is applied to 1/8″ monolithic (single pane) glass, or 7 mil or 8mil applied to 1/8″ glass and/or 1/4″ (monolithic) it is considered as a means of rendering annealed glass as a safety glazing material (safety glass, also called “tempered glass”).

These products carry manufacturer’s warranties (usually 10 years or greater) against crazing, peeling, discoloration and delamination.

Another Nissan Leaf! Darkly tinted due to medical exemption.

We had the honor of tinting another 2011 Nissan Leaf. You’ll notice a darker than usual window film was used. Because the owner of this vehicle obtained medical exemption decals from the Department of Safety, we were able to use a darker window film.

In Tennessee, an application for a medical exemption certificate and decals can be made by bringing a letter from your physician to the Safety Commissioner (currently Bill Gibbons, 1150 Foster Ave., Nashville, TN 37243) stating the need to avoid excessive exposure to sun for health reasons. Typically medical exemptions are granted for eye or skin related conditions.

This photo shows the location of the required decal on the front windshield. There is also one required on the back windshield. Tennessee state law is very specific about where these decals must be located.

Window film care is easy

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

1)      WINDOW FILMS TAKE UP TO 30 DAYS TO FULLY DRY AND CURE.      DURING THIS TIME YOU MAY SEE WHAT APPEARS TO BE HAZE, WHICH CREATES SOME VISUAL DISTORTION.  THESE CONDITIONS ARE NORMAL AND WILL DISAPPEAR AS THE FILM DRIES.  PLEASE DO NOT CLEAN WINDOWS DURING THIS PERIOD.

2)      AFTER 30 DAYS, WINDOW FILM CAN BE CLEANED USING A LIGHT SOLUTION OF ORDINARY LIQUID DISH DETERGENT AND A SYNTHETIC SPONGE OR SOFT CLOTH. AFTER WASHING, REMOVE LIQUID WITH A SQEEGEE AND WIPE ANY REMAINING EXCESS WITH A PAPER TOWEL.WHEN USING A SQUEEGEE, PLEASE MAKE SURE THE RUBBER BLADE IS SOFT AND PLIABLE, AND WIPE THE BLADE CLEAN AFTER EACH PASS.

3)      FILMS APPLIED TO GLASS COLLECT NO MORE DUST AND GRIME THAN UNCOATED GLASS SURFACES. TOP QUALITY WINDOW FILMS COME WITH AN ABRASION RESISTANT INTERIOR SURFACE COATING, WHICH WILL NOT SCRATCH EASILY. WASH AS OFTEN AS YOU FEEL NECESSARY.

4)      AMMONIA, AMMONIA-SUBSTITUTE CHEMICALS AND TRI SODIUM PHOSPHATE (OR ANY PHOSPHATE) ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR REPEATED LONG-TERM USE ON WINDOW FILMS. LIQUID DISH DETERGENT OR BABY SHAMPOO ARE THE SAFEST CHOICES WHEN CLEANING GLASS WITH WINDOW FILM.

What is window film?

Most window films are micro thin transparent coatings that Solar Insulation professionally installs to the interior side of the glass. These films provide multiple functions. Most home and business owners use them to increase the energy efficiency of a window. However, they can be used to strengthen the glass (safety & security films are thicker), to provide privacy (frosted and reflective films) or for ultraviolet protection (most solar control films provide UVA/B protection).

Once installed the products are backed by a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty for residential installations and a 15 year warranty on commercial installations. No construction mess and no major disruptions. These products are as easy to clean as your windows are today

Do’s and don’ts of cleaning your tinted windows

So you are enjoying your recently tinted windows! They are gorgeous to look at with less harsh glare, keeping you more comfortable, and 99.9% ultraviolet protection!

Just as I am admiring them, my adorable 2 year old with sticky wet fingers smears all over them. Ugh! what do I do? No worries, they are easy to clean. We ask that you wait until the film is dry to do so.  After 30 days you can use a mild soap (very small amount) and water solution and a synthetic sponge and soft cloth to wipe up excess liquid. A squeegee works well as long as the blade is soft and pliable (not old and brittle).

Ammonia and tri sodium phosphates are not to be used repeatedly and long term, but occasional use should not hurt the products.
